MEET DR. LORI
The Ratchet Whisperer
Dr. Lori Alyse Croom is a child of God first and foremost. She is a native of Birmingham, Alabama where she grew up as the middle child of five. Dr. Lori is a professional, an entrepreneur, and now an author. Her most important role, however, is being a mom to her two sweet girls, Charity and Christen.
Lori is a Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Spelman College (Atlanta, GA) where she obtained a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry. She went on to the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry and received her Doctor of Optometry degree. Shortly after graduation, Dr. Lori opened her eye clinic, NowVision Eye Care, located in downtown Birmingham.
In 2017, Lori became an unintentional viral internet sensation when her comical, yet spiritual interpretation of "Wipe Me Down" garnered millions of views online. The unexpected reception of her video inspired her to create @mygodtoday, an Instagram page where she takes popular songs and provides her followers with a motivating and spiritual interpretation of the lyrics. She is known for employing her favorite catch phrase, "My God Today!!" when referring to just about anything.
In her spare time, Dr. Lori enjoys eating tacos, watching reruns of A Different World, cooking plant-based meals, making people laugh, lighting scented candles, blowing out scented candles, making The Last Dragon references that her friends don't understand, encouraging talented young black girls to consider Spelman, and serving as the occasional Instagram hottie. In January of 2020, she was blessed to preach her first sermon, "Go Ahead and Free Yourself." She is a member of Faith Walkers Church (Birmingham, Alabama) and the Birmingham Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.
