"The light of the body is the eye..." -Matthew 6:22

Dr. Lori is a native of Birmingham, Alabama.  She attended Shades Valley High School (Irondale, AL) and graduated as valedictorian.  While in high school, Lori developed a strong interest in vision, the human eye, and the optometric profession.  By age 15, Lori had begun telling her friends and family that she would become an optometrist and would one day open an eye clinic of her own.  She went on to earn her B.S. in Chemistry from the prestigious Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society.

After Spelman, Lori returned to Birmingham to pursue her long-time dream of becoming an optometrist and obtained her O.D. degree at UAB School of Optometry.  In 2012, only months after graduation, Dr. Lori opened a small private practice (NowVision Eye Care) at the age of 27.  The practice is located in downtown Birmingham, and continues to grow each year.

Dr. Lori believes that optometry affords her the opportunity to do the same thing naturally that she is called to do spiritually--help people see things clearly.  As an optometrist, she prescribes glasses and contact lenses, handles routine eye care issues, and manages more complex ocular disease processes all with the goal of perfecting and preserving her patients' vision to the greatest extent possible.

Fun Fact: In the early days of the practice, Dr. Lori took on a part-time job working as the optometrist for a men's federal correctional facility.  She has stories for days!

Fun Fact: Dr. Lori sees a lot of kids and often plays A Different World in the waiting room so that they can be exposed to images of black people in a college setting.
